The Little Things

The big things in this life always seem to occupy my time. Working on the budget. The car needing a new part. Trying to buy a house.

If I sit here long enough, I can probably add lots of other 'big things' to the list. But I've been challenging myself lately to learn how to appreciate the little things instead.

They can be anything.

A warm cup of coffee. A piece of chocolate cake. An early morning walk. A stranger holding the door open for me. My husband holding my hand while he lays in bed beside me. A happy dog licking my face at five in the morning. Offering comfort to someone who's in desperate need of it.

I know that the 'big things' of this life are important and they shouldn't be dismissed or passed over.

Disease. Death. Financial struggles. Relationship problems.

There are so many of them. It can be overwhelming, and I will agonize and make myself sick over the 'big things'.

The truth is, I focus too much on the 'big things' when they are usually out of my control.

So, instead of worrying about them, I do my best to hand them over to God. I know that He is more than capable of working things together for my good. Scripture tells me so.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

Hand the 'big things' over to God. Trust Him to take care of the things in this life that are out of your control.

In the meantime, enjoy the little things.
