Our Newest Addition: Zailey!

We have had Zailey for a little over two weeks now.
I was a little leery about posting about adopting her until we actually signed the papers.
Before we could officially adopt her, Niko had to get caught up on his shots.
He was only a few weeks behind.
We were on vacation and then trying to catch up on life.
He also had to have a heart worm test, which he tested negative for.
Thankfully!
We drove up to PetSmart in Tulsa yesterday to pay the adoption fee and sign the papers.

When we drove up to PetSmart two weeks ago, it was a spur-the-moment kind of trip.
Niko has severe anxiety in the car and we knew we needed to get him a Thundershirt.
As we were walking through the store, my husband shouted "HUSKY!" at the top of his lungs and took off running full speed ahead.
The Henryetta Animal Aid and Rescue team was there with several dogs they had up for adoption and there sat Zailey in the cage, just staring at me.
I don't think my husband even took her out of the cage before telling them he wanted her.
I just have to laugh now.
We really ended up getting very lucky with her.
She is the perfect dog.
And what makes me even happier is knowing we rescued her.
She was found living in Wal-Mart.
They're not sure if she was dumped there or ran away.
Whoever had her before took good care of her.
Though HAART tried to find her owners, they were unable to.
Now, Zailey is officially part of the Hansen family.
She loves to cuddle, play tug-of-war and follow Niko around.
And we're so glad we made that spur-the-moment trip to PetSmart two weeks ago.

I know that most people who are looking for a dog are usually looking for puppies.
But if you're thinking about getting dog, I just want to urge you to look into adopting.
There are so many wonderful dogs out there who just need loving homes like Zailey did.
We looked into getting a puppy before adopting Zailey, but then decided it just wasn't for us.
Our hearts have a soft spot for dogs who just need someone to adopt and love them.
Especially Siberian Huskies :)
