Things I Love About Oklahomans

1. They all love Dr. Pepper
And I, too, happen to love me some Dr. Pepper.
So, wherever I go, I know that I am sure to find a lofty supply of my favorite soda.

2. They're friendly.
Especially when driving on back roads.
If you pass them, they will wave.
Actually, they do that no matter where you are.
Even if you don't know them.

3. Most of them are pretty calm drivers.
If you're in the slow lane going the speed limit, and they want to go faster,
they will happily go around you.
They will not ride your bumper, rev their engines, honk or throw their hands dramatically up in the air so you're sure to notice in your rear-view mirror
(and if they do, I guess I'm too busy singing along to the radio to notice).
I do mostly small town driving, but when I do go to Tulsa I have noticed
it's not plagued with angry drivers like my beloved San Diego.
Then again, I don't really spend much time there.

4. They have good ol' country boys.
Who drive their trucks through mud.
And wear cowboy boots.
Before you get the wrong idea, I am happily married.
What I'm saying is that they teach boys how to be boys here.
They work hard, restore cars, love their Mommas, and enjoy the weekends.
It's refreshing.
They're not all in their heads.
I like that.

5. They don't seem to like pennies.
Which is totally fine with me because I love finding abandoned pennies in the parking lot.
And if you leave a trail, I will follow it.
Just ask my hubby.
I did so at a car dealership once.
And all the salesmen watched me.
I will pick up your thrown out pennies, so keep em' coming!

6. The accents.
I find their twangy accents endearing.
Please read the following sentence in Surfer Dude accent:
And, like, dude, they totally don't sound foreign to my Southern California ears anymore.
My favorite Oklahoman phrase (that I use often) is:
"I'm fixin' to go to the store. Or to work. Or on a walk."
Wherever I go, I'm 'fixin' to go there ;)

7. Everyone knows everyone.
And they're all related.
I think Miranda says it best:
"Everybody dies famous in a small town."

And the number one thing I love about Oklahomans?

8. Their front porches.
Where they sit to watch the beautiful Oklahoma sunsets.
I wait all day for them.
They're gorgeous!
And pictures will never do it justice.
You have to see it for yourself.
My advice?
Add 'Watch the Sunset in Oklahoma' to your bucket list.
You won't be disappointed.
